We are at that time of year again where we celebrate the Solstice – in the northern hemisphere, the Summer Solstice, and in the southern hemisphere, the Winter Solstice.

From Wikipedia: A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year as the Sun reaches its highest or lowest excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere.  The solstices, together with the equinoxes, are connected with the seasons.  In many cultures the solstices mark either the beginning or the midpoint of winter and summer. The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the Sun stands still in declination; that is, the seasonal movement of the Sun’s path (as seen from Earth) comes to a stop before reversing direction.

The Solstice that occurs in June happens when the Sun reaches 0 Cancer.

Symbolically, in amongst other things, it stands for change – changes of all kinds, on any level.  We can experience this period in many different ways, but one thing is for sure, the Sun is signaling something that we would do well to take notice of, and, we have a chance to salute the Sun and feel it’s enormous impact on us; not just on a physical level, but spiritually and emotionally.

The Sabian Symbol for the June Solstice is Cancer 1: Sailors On A Ship Lower An Old Flag And Raise A New One.  This degree marks a turning point and decisions made now can be far reaching.

The following are the Keywords and Cautions from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:

Keywords: Changing loyalties.  Turning points in one’s obligations or duties.  Announcing new standards.  Turning a corner.  Getting rid of the old guard.  Letting go of old allegiances and taking up new ones.  Giving up old ways.  Changing bad habits.  Taking the helm.  Switching sexual preferences.  Sailors.  Ships.  Flags.  Divorces.  Marriages.

The Caution: Rejecting the old just for the sake of change.  Fickleness.  Not sticking with one thing for long enough to realize the rewards of loyalty.  Being a traitor.  Religious quarreling.  Going only where the “good action” is.  Piracy.  Mutiny.  Treason.

So, what part of your life needs to have a flag lowered and a new one raised?

This Solstice is particularly active as we have some wonderful planetary energies going on.  For a start, Mars is conjunct the Sun, bringing a sense of optimism and vitality, although for some, the drive might arise from anger or frustration.  It is certainly time to make any much-needed changes.

Mars is on Gemini 29: The First Mockingbird Of Spring Sings From The Treetop. This speaks of making announcements, having a voice, being heard.  It also speaks about new beginnings, backing up the energies of the ‘Sailors Lowering An Old Flag And Raising A New One’.

Meanwhile, Mercury, the ruler of Mars, is on Gemini 9: A Medieval Archer Stands With The Ease Of One Wholly Sure Of Himself, Bow In Hand, His Quiver Filled With Arrows.  After the recent Mercury retrograde, we need to feel sure of ourselves, sure of our aims and sure of our direction.  As during the entire Mercury retrograde, we still have Mercury squaring Neptune, but that influence is set to wane.  The trick is in being sure what we are aiming at; what we are wanting to accomplish.  We may have to drop some of our former goals and ideas in order to take on new ones that are more aligned with our true natures, our true desires.  We need to take aim and be true to ourselves and stay on course.

The trick is not getting caught up in abstractions and those things that don’t further us, especially as Mercury rather quickly moves onto Gemini 10: An Airplane Performing A Nosedive, and Mercury is squaring Neptune at Pisces 10: An Aviator In The Clouds.  We need to be good navigators – we need to keep a good sense of direction and purpose and we may be still smarting from the enormous amount of wanting to ‘go on strike’ that’s been erupting in and around us from Venus, Mars, Mercury and the Sun going over these ‘I’m not doing this thing anymore’ Symbols in Gemini.  It has been really something; there are so many ‘damn this I’m not doing it’ events lately and this last Mercury retrograde period has had many people scratching their heads, wondering what on earth has been unleashed.

Venus is in Leo, which brings a sense of wanting to party, get out amongst friends, or, it could be a desire to get out amongst people in general, even if you don’t know them.  Venus is on Leo 15: A Pageant Moving Along A Street Packed With People.  For one reason or another, people come out and celebrate, party, or just gather.  Truth be known,  it could be a celebration or a funeral – it all depends on what’s going on in and around you.

Venus is heading towards a conjunction with Jupiter. Jupiter is on Leo 20: Indians Perform A Ritual To The Sun.  It’s interesting how this is where Jupiter is when a ‘ritual to the Sun’ is what the Solstice is all about.  What ‘rituals’ do you feel you could perform or bring into your life? Do you need more sun in your life? Perhaps sitting in the sun while you make some power affirmations is the way to bring new life, love and joy into your life.

A fabulous aspect that’s happening now is Uranus Trining Jupiter.  Many people see this match-up of Jupiter and Uranus as ‘lucky strikes’, lucky breaks, breakthroughs and fun.  Uranus is on a very interesting degree which speaks of stepping up to the plate, taking on challenges, making firm statements, being sure about your direction, perhaps.

Uranus is on Aries 21: A Boxer Entering The Ring.
Uranus goes retrograde on this degree in late July, and it will be sitting on this degree until early September.  The combination of Uranus in Aries on The Boxer degree – and having it stationing on this degree – is very dynamic.  It is likely to really push us forward towards our objectives.

So, what is it that you are stepping up to? What commitment, what decision, what reality are you moving towards?

At the exact moment of the Solstice, we have the Moon on the last degree of Leo, squaring Saturn in Scorpio.  This points to a need to get organised, to get our lives in order, to throw things out, to redefine our boundaries.  With the Mercury/Neptune square, we will do well to take note of the possibilities of finding equilibrium through getting down to basics.  The Sabian Symbol for the Moon is Leo 30: An Unsealed Letter Revealing Vital And Confidential Information – what is that you need to admit to yourself? To others? In what way and how do you need to open up? It could be time to open up to your innermost thoughts or desires.

Sabians 2015 3Part of all this is a need for healing. Pluto is on Capricorn 15: In A Hospital, A Childrens’ Ward Is Filled With Toys.  Pluto here brings up all sorts of issues around healing, medical treatments, the need for intervention, the need for fun, joy or a sense of well being in our bodies.

Chironthe Wounded Healer and The Stories That We Tell Ourselves (without a story, there

is no ‘wound’) is on Pisces 22: A Prophet Bringing Down The New Law From The Mountain.  It is time to lay down some new laws – we can lower that old flag and raise that new one in the light of a new day, with new realisations and new definitions of what and how we want things to be.  Perhaps our boundaries are set to get stronger, more defined?

We need to be rather vigilant about what we put out there, whether our ‘confidential information’ is being revealed to others, or just to ourselves.

The Moon’s north node is on Libra 6: A Man Watches His Ideals Taking A  Concrete Form Before His Inner Vision.  The following is my shortened interpretation of this degree – I feel sure you will get the drift of what this means for us:

This Symbol is one of the few Sabian Symbols that speak directly of the idea of the ‘law of attraction’; as a person imagines, so does their outer reality take shape and bring to them what they were imagining.  In your life you’ll find vivid examples of thoughts manifesting as things – other times they may happen without you really realizing it.  Ideals are not only bought into the light of reality but they are put to the test.  This shows the ability to be able to visualize your thoughts and feelings and it possible to project your creative ideas out into the real world.  What you think will happen can happen.

Keywords:  Confrontations with objectives.  Meditations and affirmations.  The need to be careful of what’s wanted.  Writing and being published.  Designs and plans.  The Secret.  Builders.

The Caution: Being dissatisfied with what was thought to be the ideal.  Not being careful what you ask for.  Neurosis.  Focusing on the negative thereby bringing the negative.

Further to this, and I feel that it is extremely important, from now on, the Moon’s north node will be transiting the Super Galactic Center (SGC) for the next six months, basically until the middle of December.  This is a major event; we are given the opportunity to really tap into the energies that zap our minds, hearts and bodies, along with our place here on earth through the agency of the metagalaxy or supergalaxy that is the SGC.

The SGC is an extremely strong and powerful point that aligns with the end of Virgo through until about 5 or 6 degrees of Libra, and the Moon’s north node is going to be traversing this territory in these coming months – for almost half a year.  The SPC aligns with the September equinox (Libra), while the Galactic Center (GC) aligns with the December solstice (Capricorn).

The Sabian Symbols for the SGC are extraordinary and the transiting Moon’s north node will be bringing our way the gifts that the SCG holds.  The gifts are many and magical: We have the opportunity to connect in with The Mind Of God – to turn on our manifesting juice and pull some rabbits out of hats.  We have the opportunity to heal old relationships and forge new ones with a better sense of who we truly are.  We can align ourselves with the Law Of Attraction and use the enormous gravitational pull of the SGC to bring us the things we may have been wanting for a long time – perhaps for life times.

With the last months of the Moon’s north node in Libra, we have the opportunity to resolve those relationship issues and move towards a better, bigger and more inclusive relationship with ourselves.

For my take on things, I see the orb of the SGC spanning from 28+ Virgo (Virgo 29 in the Sabian Symbols), through until 5+ Libra (Libra 6).

Here’s the Sabian Symbols of the SGC that the Moon’s north node will be traversing:

Virgo 29: A Man Is Gaining Secret Knowledge From An Ancient Scroll He Is ReadingSabians 2015 4

Virgo 30: Having An Urgent Task To Complete, A Man Doesn’t Look To Any Distractions

Libra 1: A Butterfly Preserved And Made Perfect With A Dart Through It

Libra 2: The Light Of The Sixth Race Transmuted To The Seventh

Libra 3: The Dawn Of A New Day Reveals Everything Changed

Libra 4: A Group Of Young People Sit In Spiritual Communion Around A Campfire

Libra 5: A Man Teaching The True Inner Knowledge Of The New World To His Students

Libra 6: A Man Watches His Ideals Taking A Concrete Form Before His Inner Vision

All of these degrees are extraordinarily powerful degrees.  We learn from these degrees that we can take hold of our destiny and move forward as a more empowered being.

Aligned with this is the fact that when the north node is on Libra 1, we find we have an opportunity to do really supercharged powerful karmic cleansing as we will have the south node in an alignment with the Draconic zodiac = Aries 1.  This is a wonderful sign of being able to dredge up and get rid of the things that are holding us back in so many ways.

The Moon’s south node will be on Aries 1 in mid-September, through the second half of October and up to around the second half of November.  These are dates that are hand picked for letting go of the past, pulling the pin on those things that keep us stuck in hold patterns, and freeing ourselves to be more of who we are meant to be.

There are many reasons why this Solstice is a powerful and incredibly meaningful one and it seems certain that there will be many rewards for lowering that old flag and raising a new one.
