5th Anniversary Astrology ~ The “Bowl” Pattern

So let’s look at the chart for the Concordance’s 5th Anniversary Solar Return. If you will recall, the particulars are as follows:

Date: November 8, 2008
Time: 7:10 AM, BST (the exact moment of the Solar return)
Place: Greenwich, UK

Astrologers will note that I have used the the Equal House system, a practice which I have used successfully for more than 30 years now. It is also the house system that was used in all my past discussions of the Concordance. Consistent, me.

Lots of places to begin, but I’ll start with the very obvious pattern in the chart. You can easily see that all of the planets fall in half of the chart, dividing the circle in two. Here they are arrayed, counterclockwise, from Saturn to Uranus. Marc Edmund Jones, one of the 20th century’s most widely read astrologers, in his book The Guide to Horoscope Interpretation, called this pattern “The Bowl.”

Perhaps the image below would more readily show “The Bowl.”

Of the seven basic types of charts, according to Jones, the Bowl marks an individual, or in this case, an event, that has a prophetic message to carry. It also indicates one that is focused on one half of the human experience. In this case, the Saturn/Uranus dichotomy suggests that there is a spiritual vs. physical confrontation expressed in the chart.

The very distinct edge to the pattern, marked off by an almost exact opposition between Saturn and Uranus, is a clear indication of the struggle between the immovable object and the irresistible force. The whole of the energy of the pattern is directed to a statement of its uniqueness. This characteristic certainly applies to the circumstances surrounding the spiritually unique moment of the Concordance. Once again according to Jones, it takes form in an advocacy of a cause or a specific mission and a concern about the purpose of life.

Saturn, as the lead, clockwise planet, is in “high focus.” Its position in the 11th house indicates that there is a significant emphasis on the highest goals and ambitions of the Concordance and a high degree of attunement to cosmic consciousness. The 11th house placement also is indicative of physical activity undertaken with friends and associates. I have often referred to this group as our “away team,” a term all “Trekkies” should recognize.

In short, this specific pattern suggests serious attention to a prophetic message about the meaning of life. What better way to look at the anniversary of the Harmonic Concordance?
