Caring for Your Crystals
Cleansing and Recharging Crystals with Selenite
There are many methods of cleansing and recharging crystals. Just as some prefer to use White Sage or Palo Santo Wood (Peru), wafting the smoke throughout their environment to cleanse the area, this sacred smoke can also be used for cleansing crystals.
Another effective measure for this is the use of sound, which is more and more becoming a part of many healing modalities. Toning, chants, music, Tibetan bowls and tuning forks all encourage healings to work on the deepest of levels. These are all also excellent tools to use in cleansing rituals for crystals.
Yet another effective method worth mentioning is immersing your crystals in cool, clear running water from a natural source. However, one must take care with this because some crystals do not do well in water. Brittle crystals could break apart and some will actually dissolve if left in water too long. (Of course, when placing them in running water, one would probably NOT keep them there long enough for them to dissolve!)
Some practitioners choose to cleanse their crystals using the light of the Sun or Moon. I believe that this is a very effective method. If you have many crystals to cleanse, taking them all outside for a night of Full Moon light or a day of sunlight, then bringing them back inside can be a bit of a chore, however. Additionally, if your outside space is not secure, they can disappear. (One of my customers recently mentioned that this happened to her.)
Yet another method people sometimes use is salt. Salt is an extremely effective method to cleanse an area (i.e., a circle of salt around you to protect you while you are doing a ritual, black salt down a dividing line between you and a neighbor that you are having trouble with, or even on a table where you want to do a reading of Tarot cards or the Ouija Board). However, I believe that salt, whether it is wet or dry, is too harsh to use to cleanse and recharge your crystals.
The pure white light of Clear Quartz, another one of my favorite crystals, will also cleanse and recharge other crystals, but it takes much longer than the white Satin Spar Selenite, requiring about a week to cleanse another crystal, as opposed to the five minutes it takes for the Selenite to do it.
My favorite method of cleansing and recharging the crystals is to set them on white Satin Spar Selenite. This is completely non-invasive for the crystals and is extremely kind to them. The crystals really don’t care how long you leave them on the Selenite – they will love being there, but you only need to rest them on it for five minutes! Any extra time on the Selenite just makes them shine more brightly.
To my knowledge, Selenite works on all crystals, including itself. It constantly cleanses and recharges itself, which is why it can do the same for all other crystals! It can also cleanse other things as well.
My parents divorced when I was 16 years old. Shortly thereafter, my father had the two wedding rings soldered together. When he gave them to me a few years later I felt that they needed to be cleansed of the emotional energy from my parents that I knew they held. I left them on Selenite for a week to be sure they were “done.” I wore them a while after they were cleansed, and when a psychometrist (a person who senses the energy of objects) “read” the rings she picked up only my energy. All of my parents’ energies had been cleared from them.
Perhaps you can understand why Selenite is probably my favorite crystal. It is pure white light, and it does so many things. In spite of the fact that this crystal is white, it is very protective, and it is ideal to use for grids for large areas. I have used large pieces of it to create four-piece grids for healing rooms, whole houses, apartments and even on a piece of land.
Selenite also works on all of the Chakras and on all of the bodies – Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, and Spiritual. If you have not used the white Satin Spar Selenite before, I hope this article will encourage you to try it. See how it feels to you so that you too may come to understand the numerous ways in which this lovely, white light crystal can benefit you, your crystals and your environment.
