5th Anniversary Astrology ~ The 3rd House

I have been working on rounding up folks who will be holding “anniversary parties” for the Concordance. Apparently there will be many such fetes going on around the world. Drop me a line if you’d like to host one.

And now…

The 3rd House

3rd-houseConcordance 5th Anniversary’s 3rd House

As I mentioned there, in a previous post regarding the “show me something three times” idea, Jupiter’s position in the 3rd actually has quite an important role in this Anniversary chart, not only by its placement in the third house, but also by its effect on the house opposite it, the 9th.   But before we get to that, let’s take a look at the spiritual side of this particular Capricorn ruled 3rd house.

Now Capricorn is what is referred to as a dual-bodied sign.  Its symbol is known as the “Sea-Goat.”  The upper part of its body is that of a mountain goat, arguably the terrestrial animal which lives at the highest elevations on the planet. The bottom half is that of a fish, the Earth creature that lives at the lowest altitude, below sea level.  It looks like this:

sea-goatThe story with Capricorn then is that it is the sign which can attain the loftiest heights and also visit the lowest depths of human experience. We have two readily available examples of this Capricorn journey, one worldly, the other spiritual: Richard Nixon and Jesus Christ.

In Nixon’s case he certainly reached the highest pinnacle of achievement; he was the President of the United States and perhaps the single most powerful person on the planet. But he is also the first and only President forced to resign that post, and in disgrace too. Nixon knew the height and depths of worldly experience.

Although there is reason to think that Christ’s birth actually took place on a different date, the historical Jesus is said to have been born as a Capricorn, on December 25th. And didn’t He too experience the height and depths of the Spiritual life? To those who believe in Him, he was God, attaining highest of spiritual heights. And he certainly was capable of plumbing the depths of men’s souls. This, then, is Capricorn’s ultimate challenge in spiritual terms; to seek the high road.

Now, the third house is certainly the indication of what an individual thinks, being the natural house of Gemini and therefore Mercury ruled. As it has to do with the Mercury ruled “mind,” it is also associated with the memory, as well as all matters concerning communications, writing and the news. Without much heavy lifting at all, I can say that the job of this third house is to spread the news that there is a spiritual high road which we can choose to walk. And in making that walk, we have the company of none other than Jupiter, the king of the Gods.

Good old Jupiter. He makes us expand our horizons and go for something bigger and better than what we have. He also wants us to be socially successful and to have a place in the community. As mentioned before, he’s the greater benefic. His association with the 9th house gives him wide ranging wisdom and knowledge. In the third house he is interested in teaching that wisdom, knowledge and analytical thinking which is enhanced by its natural association with Mercury.

Consider too the applying Trine to Saturn as well as applying Sextiles to both the Sun and Uranus. These energy enhancing aspects more than off-set the fact that Jupiter, as the natural ruler of the ninth, it is not particularly comfortable in the third, the house opposed to his home 9th. But look at those three terrific open energy conduits. The Trine to Saturn enhances the possibility of the actual manifestation of Jupiter’s benefic gifts. The Sextile open-highway between Jupiter and Uranus suggests that the manifestation of that creative (Uranus is in the fifth) energy might be sudden and unexpected. And now, to complete this magnificent convergence, the energy of the Sun shows up, via the other energetic Sextile, adding its own dynamic will, power and spirit.

Let’s not forget that, in Capricorn, any planet gets dressed in that Sea-Goat outfit. It’s no different for Jupiter. So this strongly supported Jupiter is going to make that Capricornian effort to reach the highest level it can. But here’s the best thing about all this super Jupiter stuff. All that energy is directed towards the ninth house, where it expresses as the wide publication of the good news and benefic energy of Jupiter, all from the house that the ancients simply called “God.”
