Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a modern concept born from the ancient precepts of Buddhism.  The founder of the practice of Mindfulness is Jon Kabat-Zin, who after years of practice with Buddhist teachers, integrated their teachings to form a cohesive modern practice.  This practice, if worked with consistently can help people to cope with stress, anxiety, pain and illness.

Mindfulness as a concept can be summarised as ‘paying attention in a particular way; On purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally’.  When living in the present moment and observing our own and the behaviour of others in a dispassionate way, we can begin to see things differently and start to let the ego behaviours go.  So the need to compete, be right, and always be in control can after time shift into a more heart centred way of thinking.
 ..
There have been many surveys and studies on Mindfulness and MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), which all verify the value of this practice and how it can measurably reduce stress and enhance our lives.
